DFW Pathway Report

Overview

You can access the DFW Pathway dashboard report from the DFW folder in the Report App. The report displays information on unsuccessful grades (commonly referred to as DFW’s) for courses by pathway. DFW grades are identified as "non-applicable" grade codes that are set up in the Astra application or can be configured as a separate DFW list. Transfer courses in a student’s academic history as well as courses that did not receive a grade are excluded from the report.

Being able to quickly and effectively identify situations that are leading to higher DFW rates is key to developing strategies and allocating limited resources to increasing student retention, progression, and graduation. Viewing them through the pathway lens will help uncover whether a student's pathway might be a contribution to DFW rates. 

Filters 

Filters default to ‘Include all’ of that category unless otherwise noted.

Successful/Unsuccessful Students by Pathway widget

The Successful/Unsuccessful Students by Pathway chart shows the passing and unsuccessful course grades by pathway (both as a total and a percentage). This allows you to see the difference in DFW by pathway. Using the filter panel on the side will filter down the included courses.

Successful/Unsuccessful Students Percentage by Pathway widget

The Successful/Unsuccessful Students by Percentage by Pathway chart shows the passing and unsuccessful course grades by pathway as a percentage allowing you to compare DFW rates between pathways. Using the filter panel on the side will filter down the included courses.

Unsuccessful Students by Grade and Pathway widget

The Unsuccessful Students by Grade and Pathway chart shows the passing and unsuccessful course grades by pathway (both as a total and a percentage). This allows you to see the breakout of the different types of unsuccessful grades assigned. Using the filter panel on the side will filter down the included courses.

Successful/Unsuccessful Students by Pathway and Modality Widget

The Successful/Unsuccessful Students by Pathway and Modality chart shows the passing and unsuccessful course grades by pathway (both as a total and a percentage) broken out by modality. This allows you to see how course modality might be affecting DFW rate. Using the filter panel on the side will filter down the included courses.

Unsuccessful Rate by Pathway and Term widget

The Unsuccessful Rate by Pathway and Term chart shows the passing and unsuccessful course grades by term (both as a total and a percentage) broken out by pathway. This allows you to see the change in DFW rate over time separately by pathway. Using the filter panel on the side will filter down the included courses.

Unsuccessful Percentage by Course and Student Pathway widget

The Unsuccessful Percentage by Course and Student Pathway pivot table shows the total DFW rate by course and student pathway. Clicking on the column headers will allow you to sort the table by Unsuccessful Percent, Total Students Taking the Course, and total Unsuccessful Students. This table summarizes the course information for ALL terms that are selected in the filters.
