Capacity Analysis Report

Overview

Capacity analyses are conducted to evaluate the space utilization of an institution's room inventory and provide insights for scheduling improvement and optimization. Once you have requested a capacity analysis service and it is completed, you can access the results through the Report App under the Instructional Capacity folder.

The report reveals the high-level metrics associated with each capacity analysis that is run for your institution and is the starting point to access all findings related to each component of the analysis. Each segment of the report contains a button that will create another tab with the corresponding analysis when clicked.

Filters

The filters are pre-set to display your institution’s primary parameter selections only, which are used for benchmark and HESI reporting. It is important that these default values are correctly set to represent:

  • Campus: your institution’s largest, most dominant campus to be used for HESI reporting.
  • Room Type: defines your institution’s classrooms/ lecture rooms.
  • On-Grid Meeting Patterns: main meeting pattern grid used within the dominant campus and room type during prime-time scheduling. This meeting pattern selection should never contain conflicting meeting patterns (meeting patterns that overlap with one another).

Filters can be modified to expand or narrow the selection beyond the defaults. To do so, update the default filter to include both true and false values. This will update the dependent filters beneath it to include all available options. Update the selection of these dependent filters accordingly.

Capacity Analysis Components

Each Capacity Analysis has three main components:

  1. Room Utilization Analysis
  2. Seat Fill Utilization Analysis
  3. Meeting Pattern Analysis

Room Utilization Analysis

Room Utilization Analysis evaluates room utilization within your institution’s prime week, standard week (and any other subset you wished to analyze) by analyzing the number of hours that rooms are being used, vs. the number of hours the rooms could be used, or are available for scheduling within each subset. Evaluates all section meetings within the date range of capacity analysis parameters.

Seat Fill Utilization Analysis

Seat Fill Utilization Analysis evaluates room utilization within your standard week by how effectively your  institution is placing section meetings in like-sized rooms (with respect to section enrollment, section enrollment caps, and room caps). Classes evaluated are those within a date range and standard week of capacity analysis parameters.

Meeting Pattern Analysis

Meeting Pattern Analysis evaluates room utilization by measuring how effectively your institution is adhering to your meeting pattern grid.
