Pathways require Admin privileges and can be accessed by clicking on the Pathways app icon from the home page.
The Pathways tab displays a list of all Pathways in the system, as well as the Duplicated Associations and Unassociated Students. Each Pathway listed includes the Pathway name, Pathway ID, and the number of students that were last associated with each Pathway. The Pathway list can be searched and also exported using the icon on the right side.
Students are associated with their respective Pathways based upon their program, major, and/or concentration. These association elements are configured for each Pathway. If more than one Pathway has the exact same configuration, the system cannot accurately determine which Pathway is appropriate. The Duplicated Associations feature highlights these conflicts in the configuration.
Clicking on the Duplicated Associations button will open the list of Pathways with duplicated configuration.
Students that are not associated with a Pathway are not creating any demand for courses, which impacts Predict’s ability to forecast future course needs. The Unassociated Students feature shows the number of students that are not getting a Pathway.
Clicking on the Unassociated Students button will open a breakdown of this number by program/major/concentration. Using this information, you can make sure to create or edit Pathways to include as many students as possible.
Student Associations Tab
The program, major, and/or concentration student attributes are used to match students up with their respective Pathways. The "Student Associations" tab will show you how students will be linked to that Pathway.
One or more combinations of program, major, or concentration may be entered for a Pathway to include various groups of students as applicable. From this page, if you add a new combination, edit the existing combination, or delete one entirely. The student count will be updated as changes are made.
Click the "Student Count" link to the left to see the list of students.
There may be cases where there are Unassociated Students that should be folded in with the Pathway you are viewing. In that case, you can use the Unassociated Students button to find the group of students, click on the student link on the left, and save their program info to the Pathway to include them in the count.
You can add an association with the button on the upper right side by entering the Program, Major and Concentration.
Clicking on the name of a Pathway on the Pathway tab will open the Pathway's details. The Pathway details include the name and description of the Pathway, the effective term, and the sequenced list of courses and/or groups required to complete the Pathway (rules). The calculated total credits to complete the Pathway (based on the "credit hours" specified per row) are included in the Credit Hours column header. The Pathway Term Definition article describes provides a glossary of terms.
Changes to existing pathways are simple. While viewing the details of a pathway, you can edit the name, description, or effective term.
Clicking the "More Options" icon on the far right side of each row provides the ability:
- Edit rule (either courses or course groups in this row)
- Edit alternate (courses or course groups)
- Delete the rule row entirely
- Resequence Pathway (edit the sequence of the rules)
Selecting "Edit Rule" allows you to edit the courses or course groups for a rule. You can specify the expected credit hours, and then optionally enter search criteria to find the courses or course groups desired. Click the + or - buttons to add or remove the items as needed. Click Save when finished.
Selecting "Edit Alternates" opens a window to allow you to edit the course or course groups. Click the + or - buttons to add or remove the items as needed. Click Save when finished.
Selecting "Resequence Pathway" will allow you to change the order of the rules in the pathway. This will expose the click-and-drag feature, as indicated by the icon on the far left side. Click and drag the rows to establish the order you prefer. Click Save Sequence to save your changes.
Selecting "Delete" will delete the pathway entirely.
Adding Pathway Rules
To add a new row to a pathway, use the Add Pathway Rule button in the upper right corner. Then, use the selection options to choose courses or groups to establish the rule
To add a new pathway, you can either clone an existing pathway to create one similar to another or create a new one from scratch.
To create a clone, open the existing pathway to be the basis for the new pathway from the Pathway Tab. Use the "More Options" icon in the upper right corner and select "Clone Pathway".
Enter a new name, and select a term from the list. Note that the combination of name and term must be unique. After saving, you can use the editing tools to make the applicable changes to your new pathway.
Creating Pathways From Scratch
If you would prefer to create a new pathway from scratch, click the "Add Pathway" button on the upper right side while viewing the list of pathways. Enter a name and select a term from the list.
Begin using the Add Pathway Rule button to specify the courses and/or course groups needed to satisfy the requirements of the pathway.
