Overview

The Cancellation Deadline report offers a deeper look at underutilized courses and sections with low enrollment. Each widget and the filtering capabilities can help identify actions needed as a registration cycle progresses.

Filters default to ‘all’ of that category unless otherwise noted.

Number of Underutilized Courses in Future Terms Widget

The Number of Underutilized Courses in Future Terms widget is a chart that displays the number of underutilized courses in each term that has not yet begun or has not yet completed. This value is influenced by filters and thus will only show courses that currently have sections with enrollment under the threshold entered. 

Top 20 Underutilized Courses in the Last 5 Years Widget

The Top 20 Underutilized Courses in the Last 5 Years widget displays the top 20 courses that are most frequently underutilized (i.e., have been underutilized in the most number of terms). Terms eligible to count include those that have started within the last five years from today.

Number of Sections Below Enrollment Ratio Threshold by Department Widget

This widget is a count of sections with enrollment lower than the enrollment ratio threshold. By default, the chart is grouped by Department, but can be changed to other category groups by right-clicking on the bar:

Changing the Category

You can right-click on any bar on the chart to change the display category and it will not alter other widgets on the report.

If an item was selected, you can change categories and the visual will change to the categories within your first selection. Example: choose a specific campus, and then choose the college category. The colleges within the selected campus will be visible.

To go back to the default category, click on the ‘clear selection’ icon on the heading of the widget.

Course Fill Progression Widget

The Course Fill Progression widget is a chart that displays enrollment progression (enrollment by days until the start of term) and is not influenced by term or section enrollment threshold filters.

Widget Interaction

• Slider Bar
  • The bar below the bar graph is a good way to zone in a specific time period.
  • Click and drag the window to move the whole window while retaining its size.
  • Drag the right and left bars on either side of the grey window to zoom in.
• Clicking any of the listed terms on the bottom will remove the data from the selected term from the visual.
• To return to the default selection, click on the ‘clear selection’ icon.

Underutilized Courses with Sections Under Section Enrollment Threshold Widget

The Underutilized Courses with Sections Under Section Enrollment Threshold widget displays all underutilized courses that have a section with enrollment that is lower than the section enrollment threshold (entered in filters). Associated sections displayed must fall below this threshold.
